Yara Crop Nutrition Specialist and IBM Get Together to Build Blockchain Farming Platform
On Friday, April 26, 2019, Yara International, firm devoted to learning about ways to protect the planet, eliminate hunger and enhance crop nutrition, and IBM, multinational information tech firm, have formed an alliance in an attempt to build a digital farming platform, reports PR Newswire.
The joint effort is believed to induce innovation and the motivation needed to better the multiple aspects of agriculture. In particular, the duo plan to increase food production on a global scale. As for both of their roles, Yara will be sharing its agronomic knowledge, a study that focuses on soil management and crop production, and IBM will be offering its expertise within the AI and digital platforms field.
IBM’s Global Managing Director Consumer Industries, Luq Niazi believes that the partnership is essential especially in a time where demand for food has been growing. Niazi further noted that “the collaboration is a perfect symbiosis,” because of both firms’ different expertise coming together and their motivation to making a difference.
Yara’s Terje Knutsen, EVP Sales and Marketing, also expressed their viewpoint on the collaboration. In particular, Knutsen emphasized how the duo will be bringing a positive, global impact in relation to agriculture adding that:
“It is critical that farmers increase food production on existing farmland to avoid deforestation. Yara and IBM will develop digital solutions that empower professional and smallholder farmers to optimize farming practices to increase yields, crop quality and incomes in a sustainable way.”
